Thank You, Blogger Folk

Despite all that stuff I read about Blogger Support not wanting to help people who'd (accidentally) deleted their blog, I got a simple little email the other day telling me that mine had been restored! :-)

And since I immediately created this one and reclaimed the 'flytie' web address so no one else would, it's now located at a new address. So here ya go, if you wanna read the old stuff and the cool comments.

http://flytieonline5.blogspot.com/

So yeah. Now I have two blogs on here, but I'll stick to posting in this one.

In other news, I heard "Understanding" by Xscape today for the first time in like...forever!! Maaaaaaan...that used to be the song. And fully clothed in the video?? They don' t (in many cases) make 'em like they used to. This was my jam, too.

That got me started thinking about Total. Yep. The goodness. Ok. one more. (and I had no clue that Keisha from the group is married to Omar Epps.)

But yeah. I'll definitely have to break out the 'ole school' 90's R&B this weekend.

Now, on to what I was supposed to get into right after the blogger stuff. (Youtube is such a distraction).

I made a skirt out of a strip of scrap fabric I found....left over from this dress. I think it's pretty cute.

I'll add it to etsy soon.

It's about time for me to turn my scraps into wearables , which became my end of the year ritual last year. Whatever scraps are left over from material I bought throughout the year get turned into a dress..or...two...or maybe three. I've got a whole lotta scraps.

From last year:

You can see the back here.

Then there's the tunic I made earlier this year (top portion is scraps):

Check it out here.

Then there's this top with the sleeves made from left over fabric:

As seen here.

And then there's the one made for myself (which I rarely do):

Yes, yes. Fun stuff. Tedious at times, but fun. Plus, it prevents so much waste.

I'll be coming up with something else soon. Just not sure exactly what....

Later, y'all.

*Curious as to why my Weather Bug is showing the temperature as 115 degrees.....hmmmmm.*

Something For The Little Ones

A while back I saw a post on the etsy forums calling for the assistance of crafters , seamstresses, etc. in order to make some clothes for 16 orphaned children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Susan, a very talented etsy seller, has been a supporter of the Umbrella Child Organization, and put out the call for the handiwork of a few good etsians when she learned that used clothes, regardless of their minimal usage, were not accepted into Ethiopia (she tried.)

I thought it was a great idea, and although children's clothing is not my specialty, I figured I'd make it my specialty for the occasion.

My intention was to make 4-5 skirts for the girls using material from my stash that had been sitting there waiting for a purpose. Well, let's just say I really got into it and ended up making 8 or 9 skirts (can't remember now) and 3 shirts. Below are pictures of some of them. I had the urge to grab a couple of the rambunctious children who run around downstairs and have them model for me, but I figured hangers would do.

The top in this one came out smaller than I had intended it to. Hopefully one of the children can fit it since they do have thin physiques.

There were two of these skirts made. After the fact I wish I'd made that material into shorts for the boys instead. Everything was for the girls...which is the exact sentiment I get from men concerning my etsy shop, ha ha! But they'll be able to wear the shirts.

This skirt is one of my favorites. I wish I'd had more of that fabric so I could have made a frilly lil lace skirt for all the girls. :-)

Now this ensemble is my favorite of them all. Of course it doesn't have to be worn as an outfit, but I think it will be too adorable on one of the girls. The skirt is gathered and is finished off with an elastic waistband. The top (and yes this is the same shirt from a previous photo) is of the dashiki style and has a front pocket. I would have loved to have been able to make a pair like this for all the girls and a matching top with shorts for all the boys. Oh the possibilities! Maybe next time...

I had to make myself stop sewing so the package would reach Susan in Washington in a timely fashion. She wants the entire package to get to the children by Christmas, and it could take a month to reach its destination.

The joy I got from doing this for the children is something that I can't even explain. I'm still really excited about it all. They deserve the best, and I wanted to do what I could to further let them know they're loved.

It's My B.earth.daaaaaaaay!!!!!

Song dedication of the day Drama by Badu. And for those wondering, that's the only clip i could find on youtube with the song, so...

oh, and the lyrics.

The world is so dramatic.....

I can't believe

that we're still livin'

oh in this crazy crazy world

that I'm still livin'

with all the problems of the day

how can we go on

so tired of hearing people say how can we go on

fantasy people

make believe people

how can you go on

but you're still livin'

race relations, segregation, no occupation

world inflation, demonstration, miseducation

no celebration to celebrate your lives

listen people listen

lift up your hearts to GOD

lift up your soul

teach your children Wisdom

Reality today... so they can live tommorrow

I can't believe

that we're still livin'

oh in this crazy crazy world

that I'm still livin'

with all the problems of the day

how can we go on

so tired of hearing people say

how can I go on

fantasy people

make believe people

how can you go on

but you're still livin'

listen people listen

lift up your hearts to GOD

teach your children Wisdom

Reality today...

And now I'm off the explore the world through the eyes of a 25 yr. old. :-)

"I don't think about art while I work. I try to think about life."

(Quote courtesy of Jean Michel Basquiat.)

So last night I attended and participated in the 3rd annual Lafayette Grinder Creative Arts Expo.

Definitely one of the coolest, yet most 'slept on' events of the city.

I did a style show...which I don't have pictures of. However, I do have it on dvd, so maybe I can upload some of the video one of these days.

Anyway. I managed to get some pics of the live art that was going on and the masterpieces that resulted from the genius of the artists (click images for a better view).

The guy in the blue shirt above is a friend of my manfriend's. After the style show, I came from behind the scenes and was talking with a few people. Next thing I know I look around and he's on stage painting. I'd heard he has skills in the area of drawing/painting, so it was cool to finally see his work...especially live. Kody (event organizer on the far left) was cool enough to let him go up there and do his thang.

(After viewing the DVD, I realized the second painting from the right was done by Rob as well...mentioned below. I really like that one but wasn't sure who'd created it since I was backstage.)

You can see one of Kody's awesome paintings top right and the outcome of my guy's friend's left of that.

Then there's this cool one at the bottom done by Rob which was proudly won by one of my friends in the private auction.

Oh! and then there's the lovely scarf/neck adornment that I came home with created by Roz.

(Me before going out to eat earlier...adds a lil' spiciness to the 'just thrown on' clothing articles.)

I agreed to include it in my style show, and Roz ended up letting me keep it as a token of appreciation. How cool is that??!?? (Thanks again, Roz :-D) I just love scarves and fabric and neck adornment and fabric/material/fiber being draped such as in cuteness shown above. I'm still looking forward to the day when I can get one of these from etsy.

So I'll probably wear it obsessively. Lafayette folk, you've been warned. If you see me in this on numerous occasions, don't be surprised.

"It's Time You Recognize My Quality."

(significance of the title...still haven't' determined the significance of the bike in this person's video. Could be that it just is???

Well, since what I typed last night is gone, I'll see what I can recall from my last entered post.

Back in '06 I decided that I'd start having celebrations in the names of those ancestors whose contributions mean something to me. Such events would be held during the birth month of whomever (or whoever??) was being celebrated. The first event was held in honor of the legendary reggae artist Peter Tosh....who, along with Burning Spear, is one of my most favorite musicians of all time.

I had every intention of doing this again this year for Tosh, but last night when I brought it up during a conversation I was having with my manfriend, he looked at me as though I were crazy and said, "It's November." The problem, Tosh was born in October!!! (some say the 19th...others claim the 9th. i just go with the entire month) I mean...October just completely passed me by! He forgot. I forgot. What actually went on in October? It was all just a blur to me. (but this could have something to do with the fact that November is my month, and my 25th bday. is coming up in 13 days ;-)

So anyway. i was looking through my shop and realized that although I forgot to remember to have the celebration, I knew what was up subconsciously. October 12 I listed a dress which is named after a Peter Tosh song:

Stepping Razor Hoodie Dress
See more in the here.

(Oh, and one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies.) :-D

Really it's the pose that inspired the name of the dress. It reminds me of his confident, "ain't takin' no stuff" mentality.

Yes, Peter Tosh is the man. I'm really moved by his music and will forever uphold his name.

Ok...Well...

I was able to find most of my deleted blog on Google (minus a few newer posts and a few older ones), but I'm not sure how to make the reconnect other than to just post the link here.

So here it is:

The goodness that was...still can't read the comments though :-(.

I'm still happy that I could find it! :-D

It may take me a while (unless someone wants to lend their assistance), but I'll figure this out. I've emailed blogger for help. However, while searching around on Google for some insight (people are just so wonderful and forthcoming with the exact info you need), I found out that this is a common problem. People say that while they can recover your blog, the blogger people might not want to and if they do, it may take a while...or something similar to that.

I'm just thrilled that I was able to recover all that I'd written about my published article.

So my heart feels a bit better.

It's 3:15 am, and I'm going to bed. Not sure why that other post has 11:54 pm as the time, since that was submitted at 2 something.

peeeaaaaaace!!!!!

Yes, People...

I accidentally deleted my entire blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! along with all of your wonderful comments.

The plan was to delete one blank entry that I unintentionally submitted.

What a trip! See this is why I should have gone to bed when I intended to.

My heart hurts. :-(
